Space for the relationship, and the people within it

Relationship difficulties can be hard to talk about when everyday conversations become stuck. You may want to explore recurring conflict, distance, changes in trust or the effect of a life transition. An initial conversation gives you an opportunity to explain what you are hoping for and to ask whether couples therapy is an appropriate way forward.

Individual relationship support or couples therapy?

You do not have to attend with a partner to explore relationships. Individual therapy can offer space to consider self-worth, boundaries, family dynamics and your own experience of a relationship. Couples therapy brings both partners into the conversation. These are different ways of working; Liz can discuss which fits the enquiry rather than assuming one format is right for everyone.

Liz’s experience and approach

Liz Gaffney MIACP is an Integrative and Humanistic Psychotherapist with a Certificate in Couples Therapy and a Professional Certificate in Family Therapy. She brings two decades of experience supporting individuals, couples and groups. Her work is compassionate and trauma-informed, with attention to the therapeutic relationship and each person’s unique story.

Beginning with care

Therapy is not a promise to save a relationship or a way to decide who is right. It offers a space to explore what is happening and what matters to you. If fear, coercion or abuse is part of your experience, contact Liz privately to discuss suitable support rather than assuming joint sessions will be appropriate. This practice is not an emergency service.

Practical arrangements

The practice is at 232 Harold’s Cross Road, Dublin, D6W N923. Online sessions are available; ask Liz which format is suitable for your circumstances. Couples-session fees, duration, availability and arrangements are confirmed on enquiry. There is no need to describe private relationship events in detail in the website form.

Your questions

Can I seek relationship counselling on my own?

Yes. Liz works with adults individually as well as with couples. You can enquire about your own relationship concerns even if a partner is not attending.

Do you work with family dynamics?

Family and relationship dynamics are among Liz’s areas of interest, and she holds a Professional Certificate in Family Therapy. Ask her about the appropriate format for your particular enquiry.

Are couples sessions the same length as individual therapy?

Please ask Liz to confirm the duration and fee for couples work. Do not assume the individual-session arrangements apply to every format.

A simple first step
